Stay Alert: Know the Signs of a Scam This Holiday Season

As we enter the holiday season, many of us may see an increase in unexpected or unusual calls. It’s a common time for scammers to target households, often using tactics designed to create confusion or urgency. To help you recognize potential scam activity and protect your personal information, here are three key warning signs to watch for:

1. SLOW DOWN: Scammers often create a sense of urgency—claiming you must act immediately or face a penalty. Take your time. Slow down the conversation and never feel pressured to give out personal or account information.

2. VERIFY: Scammers may pretend to be Whip City Fiber and can even spoof our phone number. If you are unsure whether a call is legitimate, hang up and call us right at 413-485-1251. We’re always happy to verify.

3. STOP: We will never demand immediate payment through third-party apps, crypto, gift cards or prepaid debit cards. Any request like this is a clear sign of a scam.

Your safety and peace of mind are important to us. If you ever encounter anything suspicious, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

We are all at the mercy of Mother Nature when it comes to storms. Hurricane season, winter storms, and even motor vehicle accidents can knock your power and internet out. Whip City Fiber is prepared with crews to repair any damage to the fiber network but our work cannot begin until power has been restored. You can take a few simple steps to be ready for an outage now. Please take a moment to review the items below and reach out to the Whip City Fiber Team (413-485-1204) if you have questions or need assistance.

Whip City Fiber is committed to providing a reliable network. Your town has invested in back up power for the main network equipment which will help to keep the internet working in your town, even if power is not—however you’ll need to make similar plans for the equipment at your home. Get prepared.

If you have phones…
VOIP phones use electricity to send your calls over the internet. If either the power or the internet is down, your phone will not work—including your 911 service. Set up your back up power appropriately to keep internet and phone access during a power outage. Learn more.

After an outage
There are some simple steps you can try to reset your system after an outage. Once power is restored, often a quick power cycle will get things running normally. You may want to print out these trouble-shooting tips and keep them handy so you can get yourself up and running. Quick tips.

Whip City Fiber for West Side! Workshop

Whip City Fiber invites West Springfield residents to attend a community workshop on Wednesday, October 8, from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at the Town Hall Auditorium to learn more about gigabit internet service.

The event will begin with a short presentation by Whip City Fiber team members, followed by breakout stations where attendees can ask questions on a variety of topics, including:

🔧 Construction and installation process
🗓️ Signing up and scheduling appointments
🖥️ Streaming with fiber internet
🛜 Internet speed and WiFi performance

While all residents are welcome, the workshop will be most beneficial for those who live in areas where Whip City Fiber service is already available or coming soon. Residents are encouraged to check the interactive service map at www.whipcityfiber.com/west-side/fiberapp to see whether their neighborhood is green (service available), yellow (under construction), or purple (next for construction).

Whip City Fiber is hitting the streets with a West Side Block Party to celebrate the launch of better, faster internet in the four pilot areas and upcoming areas (Ashley • Beverly Hills • Braintree • Bretton • Brewster • Cornflower Dewey • Forest Glen • Forest Ridge • Great Plains • Greystone • Havenhurst • High Meadow • Janet • Lantern • Larchwood Meadowbrook • Morton • Nelson • Poplar • Robinson • Rogers • Shadow • Upper Virginia • Van Horn • Westfield • Wilder).

The event will take place on Wednesday, June 18th from 4-6 PM. Community members are invited to stop by for a free popsicle, fun summer giveaways, and a chance to meet the Whip City Fiber team.

The block party will be staffed with fiber installers and customer service representatives who can assist with sign-ups, answer technical questions, or simply talk about what sets your town-owned network apart from the rest.

On Friday, June 13th, the Starfires will take on the Norwich Sea Unicorns with first pitch at 6:30 PM. Gates open at 5:30 PM, so come early and enjoy the atmosphere and stick around after the game for a spectacular fireworks show!

Whip City Fiber Begins Next Phase of Construction in West Springfield

Whip City Fiber is excited to announce the next phase of its West Springfield’s fiber-optic network expansion, preparing to bring high-speed internet to more homes and businesses.

Following the successful completion of the initial four pilot areas this spring, work is now beginning on the next fiber service areas (FSAs) listed below. Residents in these neighborhoods will start seeing Whip City Fiber trucks and Dig Safe utility markings as crews begin the preliminary underground work to stay ahead of the seasons.

FSA 06 — Mid-October 2025 (Braintree, Dewey, and Great Plains)
FSA 54 — Early-November 2025 (Rogers, Westfield, and Upper Virginia)
FSA 08 — Late 2025 (Forest Ridge, High Meadow, and Lantern)
FSA 36 — Late 2025 (Forrest Glen, Shadow, and Dewey)
FSA 14 — Early 2026 (Janet, Morton, and Larchwood)

2.5 Gig Now Available in Westfield!

Whip City Fiber is excited to announce the launch of its new 2.5 Gig internet service, delivering ultra-fast speeds to meet the growing demands of modern households and businesses.

For commercial and residential customers, the new 2.5 Gig service provides more bandwidth, low latency, and unmatched reliability. Customers will be able to power multiple high-demand devices simultaneously, experience seamless streaming, lag-free gaming, and ultra-responsive accessibility. The 2.5 Gig service (up-to 2.5 Gbps download/1.25 Gbps upload), which is more than twice as fast as the current gigabit service, takes full advantage of the fiber to the home network built in Westfield over the last nine years.

Whip City Fiber’s 2.5 Gig internet service will be available to Westfield residential accounts at $99.95/month and to commercial accounts with rates starting at $129.95.
